Dongle power error

why does my new dongle disconnect and come up with error message "USB power hub has exceeded its power, disconnect USB " then chucks me off line.

probably because you are ARE drawing too much power from the USB socket
Is the dongle plugged directly into the PC? or through a multi-way USB hub? If so is the hub powered
Please also advise make / model of computer and version of windows
