RE: my 3 dongle wont connect

the answer could be uninstall the drivers for the dongle restart the computer and plug the dongle in, then reinstall the drivers or check if there are any updates for the dongle.
hope this helps

RE: my 3 dongle wont connect

past experience has shown there are too many variables for us to offer useful advice through the forum for 3G dongle issues. Its hard to diagnose these without actually seeing the machine working

Two suggestions
1) call "3" yourself, listen to what they say and go through their diagnostic checks. They are better at this than your GF would have you believe: after all they do this all day, every day
2) failing that, place a job request for one of our team to visit you and attempt to fix the problem. However, if the fault is with the dongle or the network then even a callout will be a waste of your money

But first - call "3" and listen to what they say

RE: my 3 dongle wont connect

Jon is being pessimistic. A call-out from a PCIQ may not be able to fix all possible problems (such as a dongle with a faulty hardware) but the PCIQ Professional should be able to tell you what the problem caused by, which in my opinion is not a complete "waste of money".

RE: my 3 dongle wont connect

hi thanks very much for your replies. i tried another dongle in the laptop but its still having the same problems so im lead to believe its the computer itself. and when i called 3 they asked me to install updates which i did and it hasn't solved the problem.

RE: my 3 dongle wont connect

If this is an older computer with a built-in dial-up modem, check that the computer is not trying to use this instead of the 3 dongle. I know that sounds ridiculous but it can happen because the computer sees the 3 dongle as a type of dial-up modem and thinks all dial-up modems are equal.

RE: my 3 dongle wont connect

First you need to open up the Network Connections window. This is an option accessible via Control Panel, under Network & Sharing Centre if you use Vista or later. Right click the dial-up connection for your 3 mobile dongle and select Properties. In Vista under the General Tab click the arrow to the right of Connect Using and select the 3 dongle rather than your built-in modem. The 3 dongle may show up as a Huawei device if 3 still get their technology from Huawei. Then click okay and you;re done. If your computer runs XP the procedure is similar but may differ slightly.

I notice on my own laptop I have a T-mobile connection from when I was testing a T-mobile dongle that will attempt to connect via my built-in Hayes dial-up telephone modem because the T-mobile dongle required is long gone, so the computer has switched to the only available modem. If I try to run the connection nothing happens for a while then I get a message Window saying there was no dial tone!!!

RE: my 3 dongle wont connect

I just had this problem and managed to figure it out.

First go to your control panel and open Internet options, then click the connections tab and check the "dial-up and virtual private network settings", click the "always dial my default connection" option and there you are.

If you haven't selected a default connection then go to network connections on your control panel and right click the 3connect icon, then select "set as default connection"

Hopefully this should work for you as it did for me

RE: my 3 dongle wont connect

These days, computers are not supplied with a dial-up modem so the 'confusion' over choice of modem does not arise. But if you are trying to run a 3G dongle on an older computer, the advice on this thread may help.
