RE: my computer wont load up

There are a lot of problems that could cause this.

You could have a hardware issue or it could just be a software problem. A Windows corruption is quite a common cause of this and is fixed by re-installing Windows.

I would suggest that an IT professional gives your machine the once over to assess that best route for repair. Most don't charge to have a quick look as long as you get it to them.

RE: my computer wont load up

I would go along with Kevin D. but issue a word of caution. If somebody offers to reset the computer to its factory settings you will lose everything of yours on the computer. Poor quality IT people do this because it is quick and easy for them but leaves the computer owner with a lot of work afterwards. Resetting to factory settings should only ever be a last resort when you have tried everything else first (and made a backup of the user data).

You could, of course, seek help form a PCIQ IT Professional by following the Get Support link on the PCIQ home page. However, PCIQ Professionals will almost always charge a call-out fee because we have to pay a commission that goes towards the PCIQ admin. costs. If you want your computer fixed in a hurry then PCIQ is excellent but it is difficult for us to give a free opinion.

RE: my computer wont load up

tech details for the laptop in question

Rebadged Uniwill Pentium III model with an SiS chipset. Out of date, poor spares availability and a chipset with a high failure rate. Cost of any repair will exceed the value of the machine. You should be able to buy a much better spec'd modern latop for around £300 online. Far better bet than repairing this antique

RE: my computer wont load up

couple more points to kill this thread off
1) this would (should?) have come with WinME installed - not XP
2) Uniwill appear to have gone bust and been subsumed into ECS/Elite. Don't expect much in the way of tech or spares support.
