Every few years Intel and AMD change the pin layout on their microprocessors and the motherboard manufacturers bring out new motherboards with a scoket to fit the new layout. This means it is often not possible to replace a motherboard with a new one because motherboards with the right socket to fit an old processor are no longer available. You might be able to get a replacement secondhand or from old stock.

A better alternative might be to upgrade the PC with a new faster processor, a new faster motherboard and new faster RAM memory. I think you could get the parts for a decent upgrade for around £120, a budget upgrade could be less. Then there would be a couple of hours of labour installing the parts and resetting Windows to match the new hardware.

I am based in the Cambridge area so I could not do this work for you unless you live nearby. However, if you fill out a support request a local PCIQ Professional should give you a quote. Intel core 2 quad processors start at around £170 so the upgrade you propose is not going to be cheap!

Yes it is possible to get all sorts of replacement motherboards, to fit that particular processor. Intel do change the pin layout of their chips every few years but the older ones are usually around for quite some time or their equivalents.
