acer laptop problem

Hi,
My laptops battery ran out so I charged it, but now it is charged it wont boot up although the screen is on it is blank. Can anyone help please

The first thing I would try is to remove the battery and see if your laptop will run using just the mains adapter. If yes then you have some strange battery problem. If not then the cause of your problem is not what you think it is.

could just be hanging as it starts
pull out the battery and power lead, then plug them in and try again

its going to be a hardware fault of some kind. but just what is hard to diagnose through a forum
When the machine is plugged into the power do any lights come on? Is it actually starting, but nit giving a display? Or is it totally dead?

Truth is, whatever the answer you probably need to get someone to look at it.

If the transformer inside your mains adaptor failed then your computer would stop working when the battery ran out. And you would not be able to recharge the battery so you would not be able to get your computer going again. Other problems, such as a faulty power input socket would cause the same symptoms.

Thanks Jon S. The lights do come on but no display. I have took it back to the place I bougt it a week ago. They said they will send it off to get sorted out. Thanks for your help.

only a week old? sale of goods act applies.
You're entitled to a refund as the machine is obviously faulty. Personally I would either exchange for another brand or take the money and go elsewhere. I see too many prematurely failed Acers

I have had an almost exactly similar problem with my Acer. My brand new Acer 7535G died exactly with similar symptoms just 5 weeks after I bought it.

I bought it from Currys on 9th August 2009 for £599.99. Exactly 5 weeks after I had bought it, it died on 13th September 2009!

It froze when I was working on it. The screen became garbled although I could still read the last thing I was working on (this to me suggested something wrong with the GPU, or its driver). I had to do a hard reboot by pressing and holding the power button. The next time it froze again before the windows login dialog was displayed, and there were a few pixles on the screen glowing psychedelically, and this time there was also some sound of static coming from the speakers. I tried to hard boot it again and after that nothing ever came up on the screen. The power and other lights do come on, but other than that it is completely dead.

The real shame about it was that it happened exactly 5 weeks after I had bought it. I took it back to the currys that I had bought it from and all they could do was send it back to Acer. They say that if it had happened a week earlier they would have offered a replacement or a refund, and obviously I would have gone for the refund because after this I do not have any confidence in the quality of Acer products.

Now I can only hope they will replace the laptop instead of repairing it. I really really do not want to be owning a repaired laptop just 5 weeks after spending £599.99 on it.

I will post the updates about the situation with my "new" laptop here when I have any but I would definitely not recommend this product to anyone, in fact I would advise to actively avoid it.

Sale of goods act still applies, irrespective of any warranty terms. Your contract is with the shop, NOT with Acer. The machine is clearly faulty and legally the responsibility lies with the seller.
By agreeing to send the machine to Acer for repair you have effectively voluntarily agreed that the Sale of goods act does not apply to you. I know what they told you, but in reality the shop was avoiding its legal responsibility

Status Update:
The current status: Its been over 28 days and no word from Curry's. I called them and the only thing thay can tell me is that it is still with Acer. This is absolutely unacceptable and I think Curry's/Acer should be ashamed of having a customer who paid 600 pounds and never got to use the product.

I think you could quite realistically claim "breach on contract" after waiting that time and demand your money back
28 days to repair a new computer is totally unrealistic
Reading between the lines I suspect the problem is lack of a spare motherboard. Every one thats made will be going into finished machines and there will be little overproduction to allow for replacements for failures

My laptop when I start it up it works for like 30min to 1 hr then it just freezes up and the only thing that im able to do is move the mouse around to try to close whatever im working on but even after I do it totally freezes up the only thing left to do it shut it manually off can you help.I have a Acer Aspire one AOD250

Maribel, better to start your own question as your problem is not related to the rest of this thread. It's very difficult to tell but I have seen similar symptoms when the hard drive is faulty and get stuck trying to read/write to a particular area of the disc. If so, you either need to pay a professional to look at the computer and replace the hard drive if necessary, or buy a new computer.
