Facebook not loading properly

Help!! I've been having a problem loading FB for 2 days now, when I log in I get blank box at the top of page followed by list down the left hand side starting with apps which keeps saying loading, then under that list of usual things that should be on toolbar at the bottom, i.e notifications, chat, etc.
Under this if I scroll down is usual fb page but with things listed above missing. I can look at home page but can't update status, or go into any apps, notifications, inbox or anything else and there is message at bottom left of page saying transferring data from platform.ak.facebook.com
We are using a 3 dongle which is slower obviously but only fb is giving any problem. Usually on Firefox but tried IE and got same prob, have uninstalled dongle but same prob on reinstalling. Done Yahoo anti spy, registry mechanic,cleared cache,spybot search and destroy and defrag of laptop but still same problem. Using Windows xp and we have latest Firefox installed. Any ideas?? x

RE: Facebook not loading properly

whats weird here is that both IE and Firefox are affected as they use different versions/installations of the Flash Player
Either you have two bad Flash installations or something is actively blocking flash. Have you changed any firewall or security settings recently?

What you could try is running the Flash uninstaller, which is at
http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/alternates

Then reinstall both the IE and Firefox versions of Flash and see what happens
Links to the latest Flash installers are also on that page.

RE: Facebook not loading properly

AFAIK FB only uses Flash for videos - everything else is done in (unbelievably complex & clever) Javascript. If you're getting the same problem on both IE & FF then it's either firewall/security software, a rogue FB app that's got onto your profile or your ISP. If they're caching popular pages (I think 3 does this, amongst others) and FB does a software update (almost every day something changes) and if only some of that is cached by the ISP, you'll get an inconsistent set of FB files until the cache catches up :{

Install NoScript in FB, try FB with scripts disabled & check nothing "untoward" appears in the list of blocked scripts. Then, assuming all's well, allow script execution for FB & check the Error Console (CTRL-Shift-J). The contents might give you a clue as to what's going on, even if 90% looks like gobbledy-gook :))

RE: Facebook not loading properly

David - Jackie is not the original poster. Nothing to say she has problems with both browsers - that was the OP's problem

In this case I'd say uninstall / reinstall flash (using the link I posted earlier). Several possible scenarios: flash has been corrupted, or is simply an out of date versions. Or maybe an update crashed (Adobe have pushed out several security patches recently: one of those may have gone wrong)
