In my experience such reviews rarely take into account such matters as reliability and spares availability. Personally I would not purchase an ASUS laptop. However thats a personal view, based on personal experience. Others may disagree. As to whether you can put Windwows 7 professional on it, then yes you could. As to how to do it - if you don't know how yourself, then either learn or else pay someone to do it. Don't try if you don't know Personally I think you'll be able to find a machine with "Pro" preinstalled from a better manufacturer at a similar price

just checking that review - presumably this one? Its got nVidia graphics. That would be enough to stop me buying one. nVidia laptops don't last.

Can you suggest a few models. I have a budget of 800 to 1000 GBP. Looking for a 17" or more , i5 or i7 processor.

RE: Plan to buy Asus N73 JN. Itcomes with windows home premium operating system. Can i upgrade to Window
models change so frequently its hard to keep up However what I will advise is brands to consider if you want some degree of longevity: Samsung, Toshiba, Dell, HP , Compaq don't buy: Packard Bell, Gateway, E-Machines, EiSystem, Acer, Advent or ASUS. In terms of what model, you'll have to decide for yourself, but ask yourself just what you want this machine for. The one you selected is not a laptop: its a desktop replacement i.e. a desktop machine for people with restricted space. Its too big and heavy to carry around. Really its intended as a media centre device for video payback etc - but you want to put Windows 7 Business on it - which will strip out all the media centre stuff. Why would you want to do that? Unless there is a maor imperative for insalling the business version of windows, you're better off without it. Thinking a bit more - that free University volume licence will only legally apply to machines owned by - and used for - the university. It won't be applicable for home use

My twopennorth on laptops is to never buy any make beginning with "A". (Acer, Asus, Advent)
With a hefty budget of £800 - £1000 you should be able to get a decent Sony Vaio or high-end Toshiba.

RE: Plan to buy Asus N73 JN. Itcomes with windows home premium operating system. Can i upgrade to Window
Interesting. I have plenty of customers who have been on Acer, Advent & Asus for many years. Most are 'light users', but a few of them are accountants using these laptops 6 long days a week, and they seem to be incapable of breaking the little "A" laptops :-)
ASUS also has a rather long record (10+ years) of producing quality end-user gear and computer components such as motherboards for Dell PCs.
If I need a road warrior workhorse, I do prefer HP business laptops, but the little "A" laptops do very well in home and office environments.

RE: Plan to buy Asus N73 JN. Itcomes with windows home premium operating system. Can i upgrade to Window
thats interesting - I'd assumed Dell boards were mainly Foxconn (as I believe they are one of Dells major assemblers) My experience of ASUS motherboards has been really bad. Every one I've had died prematurely - to the point where I've not bought one for several years. I won't use them in a customers machine. Maybe things have changed. As regards the relative longevity of the "A" brands - the chap who does laptop work for me reckons the reliability went downhill, especially on the Acers, a few years ago awhen they all gradually changed to multi-layer PCBs for their motherboards. He reckons the multi-layer boards at the cheaper end have a tendency to delaminate. My main problem with the "A" companies is the simple lack of spares when they go wrong. Because of the short production runs and "ODM" type origin of these it means trying to get hold of replacement motherboards or panels is often like acquiring hen's teeth. With the Dell/HP/Toshibas you stand a better chance of finding a source of the parts without resorting to the breakers yard.

Is there any particular reason why you want the Professional version?
