Can't install my T-Mobile Huawei e3131 dongle

Hi,
As the title reads, I cannot install my dongle. I have already called T-Mobile and they have not been much help yet.

Problem:
I plug it in, click autorun.exe and it loads for 4-5 seconds and then nothing happens. The program seems to appear in the programs list that can be uninstalled. However, the dongle doesn't appear on the computer anymore, but it appears in device manager where it says the driver has not be installed properly (error code 31). There's a little yellow triangle next to the dongle in that list.

Any help would be great! I've been at this for the past 48hrs! I am running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit.

RE: Can't install my T-Mobile Huawei e3131 dongle

Follow the instructions below (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc725782.aspxrom) and select the option to delete the driver software. Restart the computer and try again to install.

To uninstall a device
Open Device Manager.

Double-click the type of device that you want to uninstall.

Right-click the specific device you want, and then click Uninstall. You can also double-click the device, and then on the Driver tab, click Uninstall.

In the Confirm Device Removal page, select Delete the driver software for this device if you also want to remove the device driver package from the driver store. .

The Delete the driver software for this device option removes the package from the driver store. It does not remove the currently installed driver for any other operational devices that use the same driver. If you remove the driver from the store, and the device is connected to the computer again, Windows must search for a copy of the driver package in the standard search locations, including possibly prompting the user for media. This option is the equivalent of running the command: pnputil -d -f . For more information, see Remove a Driver Package from the Driver Store.

Click OK to complete the uninstall process.

When the uninstall process is complete, unplug the device from the computer.

RE: Can't install my T-Mobile Huawei e3131 dongle

Could i ask, What Operating system are you currently running on the effected machine?
It could be a problem with your usb port, have you tried a different port?

RE: Can't install my T-Mobile Huawei e3131 dongle

if your unable to remove the software via Applications manager, Try using Revo Uninstaller(Free application) to force removal of the application, and any registry settings it may have associated with it.

You can find the link for it here
http://www.revouninstaller.com/

as for the hardware,
Try a driver uninstall on the hardware manager as Alan suggested,Then remove your device, and reboot your system.

RE: Can't install my T-Mobile Huawei e3131 dongle

Hi,
I am able to remove the software via Applications manager like described above. However, when I try to re-install it, it fails and I am stuck in the same situation over and over again.

RE: Can't install my T-Mobile Huawei e3131 dongle

Perhaps the installation software supplied on the dongle is corrupt? Can you try to install your dongle on another computer?

I went to get a new dongle and this one is not working either. I don't believe the installation software is corrupt.

RE: Can't install my T-Mobile Huawei e3131 dongle

I have had a little breakthrough. When I boot up in Safe mode (without networking), the driver installs properly. However, when I go back to windows after that, it is showing that the driver cannot be loaded (error code 31) like before.

So what happens in Safe Mode with Networking? Can you actually use the thing then?

RE: Can't install my T-Mobile Huawei e3131 dongle

Hi,
It doesn't work in safe mode with networking. It is the safe like booting up normally, it can't load the driver. It loads the driver in regular safe mode (without networking), however as there is no networking, I can't use the device...Dunno if this helps to understand the problem?

RE: Can't install my T-Mobile Huawei e3131 dongle

does your laptop have a USB3 chipset?
a comment on an Apple Mac forum suggests this dongle has problems when connected into a USB3 socket, and they suggest using a USB2 hub as an intermediary device
I've no idea if it will work for you

RE: Can't install my T-Mobile Huawei e3131 dongle

My daughter just bought one and it has completely trashed her computer, because it failed to install and kept giving error messages just as it did back in 2013 therefore there is something seriously wrong with this device. She bought it in good faith in Argos, not wanting to trust the corner shop for dodgy stuff, yet she has been robbed of her money by this as she now has to go out and get another one more expensive and will probably take more from her financially in the long run. However for a mobile unit that has failed I do not think that T MOBILE IS A RELIABLE COMPANY as they seem to have dodgy stuff.
