Windows Vista Upgrade--Battery not being detected, Sony Shared Library not found

I installed Windows Vista Business about 6 months ago and have been dealing with working out the kinks ever since--Sony/Microsoft sucks. Anyway, at this point I still cannot use my laptop (vgn-sz230p) without having it plugged into the a/c adapter because it's unable to detect a battery whatsoever so it's running straight from the adapter. I've tried resetting the BIOS, installing all the crap sony has on the website for drivers/software, but still nothing. I think it has something to do with the Sony Shared Library.

When I first boot up my computer I receive an error message titled: "VCUServe.exe - Entry Point Not Found" and the body of the message says: "The procedure entry point ??0CSnyUtilsApi@@QAE@XZ could not be located in the dynamic link library VCUlib.dll." Also, when I try to install the Battery Check Utility for Vista it says it can only run on Windows Vista (which I'm blatantly running).

Any suggestions?

RE: Windows Vista Upgrade--Battery not being detected, Sony Shared Library not found

A quick Google tells me that the VCU in VCUServe.exe and VCUlib.dll stands for Vaio Camera Utility, so nothing to do with your battery problems. Maybe you should try re-installing the Camera software? What makes you think that the battery is not deceased, gone to meet its maker etc etc? I know it's only six months old but it seems the obvious explanation about why it cannot be detected.

RE: Windows Vista Upgrade--Battery not being detected, Sony Shared Library not found

I tend to think it's a Vista problem given the fact that it only started acting up once I installed Vista. At first it was detected, but unable to be charged (for a few weeks), and thereafter simply not detected at all. I also tried using a friend's battery from a similar Sony laptop w/ the same battery type, and that too was unable to be detected.

Also, I'm aware that the VCUServe.exe is the camera utility, and while I'm partially in agreement w/ your less-than-helpful "it's not important" response, it's the notion that I didn't pay to upgrade to Vista in order to lose functionality. I was looking for help, not "that stinks, forget about it." So, if anybody else out there has any constructive responses, that'd be great.

RE: Windows Vista Upgrade--Battery not being detected, Sony Shared Library not found

I would not recommend anyone to try to upgrade from XP to Vista and I gather upgrades have not been selling very well. You reported two problems, although you did not make that distinction clear. The main one was a battery problem. I suggested it might be the battery itself, you've tried another one and eliminated that possibility so now I'm afraid I'm stumped. The other problem I identified as being to do with your camera software and I suggested the obvious remedy, to re-install it. Specifically, I suggest you download and install the Vista version, if it exists.

RE: Windows Vista Upgrade--Battery not being detected, Sony Shared Library not found

The problem you are refering to is the same message I have been experiencing. I have a sony vaio fe770g notebook. I bought it with XP but the system was "vista ready". I waited one year to install vista. I don't loaded many drivers directly from the sony site. EXCEPT the Built in Camera driver which they do not have. I was on line with sony serveral times trying serveral different thing but in the end was told they do not have a driver for vista for the utility camera. They told me go 3rd party which I have not yet been able to locate. Could use some help with this! By the way, the camera they are referring to a exteranl camera such as a video or digital, they are referring to a built in camera.

Battery problem - If you cannot run it without mains and you have tried another battery then it appears to be a problem with the motherboard in your laptop not recognising the battery.

If it is still under warrenty then get back in touch with Sony.

Alex, rather then take the typical "it's a Microsoft problem" attitude why don't you look at the obvious facts. The battery won't take a charge and remains undetected. The fact that you installed Vista recently is only a coincidence and nothing more. This is Sony after all, the same company responsible for millions of exploding labtop batteries.

RE: Windows Vista Upgrade--Battery not being detected, Sony Shared Library not found

OK this is a stale thread, but there is a point worth making here: the battery suppliers wont warrant their laptop batteries for more than six months. Used to create hell at Time Computers (where I used to work) because the sales guys would put a 12-month warranty on what we sold, but any that were returned after six months became a total loss to us: the battery makers refused to replace them. Don't expect more than six months out of a laptop battery

Had the same problem with my battery. Found out it was a progam call ISB utlity. I just disabled it with msconfig and it worked.

I think you should check the battery first. If it is okay then I would like to suggest you to get in touch with http://www.supportonclick.com who I think can be able to detect the problem and solve it. The staffs over there are skilled enough to solve any kind of problem related to computer. They also helped me a lot to solve all the problems I was facing after upgrading to Vista.

RE: Windows Vista Upgrade--Battery not being detected, Sony Shared Library not found

Have you tried the suggestion put forward by Alex L? ISB Utility seems to be a Sony battery checking utility. It is suggested that its main function is to try to prevent you from using a non-Sony battery. Try using msconfig to disable it and see if that makes any difference to your problem.

Post back if you need instructions on how to do this.

RE: Windows Vista Upgrade--Battery not being detected, Sony Shared Library not found

I've nothing to add to the last post, but I DO want to insert a note of caution about NC's posting and "supportonclick"
This is a scam company who indulge in shady business practices, as noted in this memo by Staffordshire Trading Standards

There are other negative comments on the web as well

where did you get hold of a copy of Win 7 starter?
Thats supposed to be restricted to volume builders only - you can't get it on disk except through TechNet or similar
