MS Word 2003 running very slow

MS Word 2003 is running very slow. Everything else on my computer is running reasonably well.

I have tried reinstalling office but the problem persists but all the time only with Word.

Has anybody else come across this? Any ideas how I can fix it.

Thanks

You could try the suggestions here http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;280821&Product=wrd20 . You could also try deleting the global template file normal.dot (Word will then create a new copy).

you may well have a lot of old temporar documents.. delete any old .doc files you have ling about with " ~$" in front of the regular filename & remove any temp/cache files from your PC using the clean-up wizard, then try a defrag.

RE: MS Word 2003 running very slow

Most of those temp files will be hidden so impossible to find unless you know how to unhide them. Instead try downloading "CCleaner" from http://www.ccleaner.com/, install and run it and use its cleanup facilities
However thats probably just a small part of the solution: you probably have some kind of viral problem. As already stated, search for and delete any and all files named normal.*, then update your AV software and do a complete scan, followed by a scan with a GOOD antimalware program - SuperAntiSPyware is quite thorough at cleansing at present http://www.superantispyware.com/
