To send and receive faxes using a modem, firstly make sure that you've attached an analog phone line to your computer. Windows will automatically detect your modem during the setup process. Click the Start button , click All Programs, and then click Windows Fax and Scan.

Click New Fax on the toolbar, and then, in the Fax Setup Wizard, follow the instructions for connecting to a fax modem.

This should work - good luck.

Dave.

RE: fax modem

Thank you David K for prompt reply. However I am still struggling as I do not have a 'Windows Fa & Scan' in my all programs. I have 'scanners & camera' OR 'Phone & Modem' but neither have the ability to go to next stage. Does this mean my modem is not able to send a FAX? Thank you

Read this "howto" page from Microsoft. Beats anything we can offer here on this subject

RE: fax modem

if the prompt for the wizard isn't shown or isn't there, depending on the windows version you are running, you may be able to enable it using the "Add / remove windows components" option found within the control panel's "add / remove programs" option, but you would require the install disc.

RE: fax modem

Its Vista... she says so in the original post so no point worrying about add/remove programs: thats irrelevant here

RE: fax modem

You must have Vista Home or Home Premium which does not have the fax software, unless you want to upgrade to Vista Business then try looking here, http://www.freedownloadscenter.com/Search/fax_software.html
Beware that when it sya 'free' it may just be a trial or demo and you may have to pay for the full version. Dave.

RE: fax modem

Thanks to all who replied I have now established that my laptop did not come with FAX modem and so have purchased an external one ZOOM from Currys.
I have installed on my laptop but I must be a bit dim as I still cannot find out how to envoke FAX from my scanner or word processor. I will have another go tomorrow hopefully a nights sleep will make things clearer!

RE: fax modem

Re the continuing saga. I have now managed to find the software on my ZOOM external modem which allows me to send a FAX. However teh two modems external & internal are in contention with the internal non fax modem taking priority. The paperwork with the ZOOM modem says to follow path Control panel- Network& sahring - Manage Network Connections - dial up connection etc. However I cannot see this last option (dial up) and so need to disable the internal modem in prefernce to the USB. Any help appreciated. Thanks
