I agree, a replacement keyboard is the answer. But as a temporary measure try pressing and holding the right alt (also known as <alt gr>) key and type 046 on the number keypad if you have one (not the numbers along the top). I have just tried it on my laptop which has a seperate number pad and it works a treat.
