RE: overheating (failing) laptop
@Daniel: You are 100% using Lead-Free solder balls. So far I have not seen/heard of a manufacturing company that starts to use Lead-Based solder balls. To get rid of the over-heating issue, you will need to clean out the debris which is located inside of the fan then apply some thermal paste onto the CPU and GPU. All should be well, if not you will need a reballing service.
Whenever a laptop has an issue with its Graphic Chip, it can be repaired. Technology is getting more advanced everyday. Most companies have machines that can remove a GPU and the lead-free solder balls underneath. This is called reballing. Do a search on Google or Youtube for "reballing". I myself offer a reballing service on GPU affected components.
Hi, Jenny. Does the power jack looks deformed? Any sign of damages? As what the other technicians have said, it could be an issue with the power jack. BUT based on what I have seen, it can also be a blown fuse on the motherboard. Have a look around pciq.com and see what others are charging. For me I have a flat fee of £54.99.
