RE: I need a wireless network setup.I have bt.home hub and Hp Laptop with windows xp

What wireless usb dongle have you bought? Did you install the CD with the connection utility? You don't need Service Pack 2 for the wireless usb adaptor to work. Service Pack 2 contains the Windows wireless utility which works with wireless adaptors but isn't required as your device will have been supplied with all the software you need. I would suggest you remove all the software you have already installed for the usb adaptor and reboot the computer. Then reinstall everything. On another note, if it's not too late you would be best getting rid of the BT home hub. What BT don't tell you is that some of the BT home hubs broadcast 'BT Open Zone' like what some of the telephone boxes now broadcast. I've seen this on 3 out of 5 hubs I have had to setup recently.

RE: Will not type e-mail messages. only addressesand attachments typed. Printer is HP Deskjet 5150purch

Sorry this query doesn't make much sense. Do you mean it won't PRINT email messages as you have mentioned a printer? If so try unplugging printer, uninstall printer drivers, reboot computer then follow original setup guide provided with printer to reinstall it. Also try doing a print preview before printing to see what information you have selected to print, just in case your software config is wrong.

If you ring your internet provider they will be able to reset your password to get online. Resetting the password on a laptop and computer is a difficult one as we don't want to be seen to give out advice which could help people hack into stolen laptops. It can usually be done within minutes so your best bet would be to find someone on here that is local and see what price they can do it for you. Probably looking at £25-£35. PC World and now Tesco PC Guys will do it but you're looking at nearer £100 if you take it to them, call out fees are terrible.

RE: XP Software causes damage to Vista laptop!!!

Sounds like your graphics drivers have reset, typical Vista thing to happen. You have two option which might resolve the issue. The first is to run auto update for Vista. Vista usually detects when graphics aren't installed and will download the latest nvidia/ati graphics that you require. Alternatively you can goto your computer suppliers website and download the graphics drivers you require. They're usually listed in the support section under the model number. If you have problems let me know what PC/Laptop you have including make and model number. Then I can get hold of the best Vista compatible drivers for you and try post the link on here. Hope this helps.

RE: Can't switch between two open windows

This is an unusual problem which I haven't seen before. I have seen what I call the Linux effect where you can have only one application window maximised so to open another window you first need to minimise the one you have open. Is this the problem you are getting? I have put the question to the so called experts of the Microsoft communities to see what they come up with, I may need some additional information. Other than AVG 8.0 have you recently installed any programs or updated windows?

RE: Can't switch between two open windows

Download avg 8.0 free version and remove the old version plus zone alarm. Just have the one virus scan running on machine (zone alarm can be resource hungry). Windows firewall is adequate for most home users. Do a full scan with avg 8 after it has retrieved all virus database updates. See what it picks up and let us know how it goes, inparticular the viruses names it detects.

Assuming the hard drive and external hard drive enclosure both use IDE connectors then yes you will be able to take it out of the computer and extract the data using another machine. It may be a virus that has corrupted the original computers software to make it not work. Be careful not to transfer any files which may be or contain viruses/spyware otherwise you could end up with two broken computers. When you connect the external hard drive enclosure to the other computer the first thing you need to do is scan it for viruses, use avg which is a free download if you don't already have a virus scanner. Hope this helps.

RE: The laptop is not coming on due to low battery but it is plugged to a power point.

Seen similar issues many time. Check the pin in the power socket on laptop hasn't broken off. Happens very easily and isn't cheap to fix. If this is the problem your cheapest solution will be to find the part on ebay, usually £5 and log a job with PCIQ to see if anyone locally will solder it to the motherboard. Will be expensive though as a lot of work is involved in stripping and rebuilding a laptop (£90 approx). PC World charge £300 as they will send it back to manufacturers.
