Yes, it usually does work. The command "netsh firewall reset" will reset the firewall while The command "netsh winsock reset" will reset the TCP ports and then you will need to restart your computer for the changes to take effect. Remember if you are using a vista and it says that you need an elevation to carry out the command then all need to do first of all is to click on the start button and then right click on the "run" command prompt icon on the list and then select run as administrator.
Click on the start button and then the run tab,then type in "cmd" and this will take you into the command prompt.When using Vista sometimes it will come up with "the commands needs elevattion",all you ned do is to right click on the command prompt and seect run as administrator. In the command prompt type in:- netsh firewall reset and click on the enter tab wait for the computer to reply you with an "OK" Then type :- netsh winsock reset and wait for the comply from the computer prompting you to restart the computer. This resets all the ports and usually solves the problem.
