RE: computer turns off when i remove the mains lead.
Richard beat me to it, your battery may show as charging, but in reality you have proved it isn't by removing the mains cable.
Mike I'm not far from St Albans if I can help.
Thanks Robin, I missed that one :)
Ok, it may be just a case that the "Quick Launch" has been disabled. Try left-clicking on your taskbar, upto Toolbars and then click on "Quick Launch"
Sandra, by "lost Icons" do you mean that your desktop is blank? Can you also advise what operating system you are using please.
What does the error message say? Have you looked at http://www.three.co.uk/Help_Support/Mobile_Broadband_Help
The installation files are on the USB stick. Browse the USB drive in My Computer, and run teh installation file.
Live Mail, is your mail client. It may store your password but you can't reset it via this software. You need to contact your ISP or if you use a webmail account i.e Hotmail, logon to your mail account and you should find an option to reset the password
RE: trying to connect hp printer
Got to agree with the last post. Goto the HP website and download the latest drivers, make sure you select the correct drivers for the version of operating system being run.
Take a look at http://support.packardbell.com/it/item/index.php?i=topic_01907&ppn=P820000006 it seems that you need to update the BIOS to version 1.3 warning the ink is in italian so you may need to searck the site for the corect version
Hi Susan look's like you have a Intel® PRO/Wireless 2200BG, the driver should be available on http://www.intel.com/support/wireless/wlan/pro2200bg/
RE: can i plug in both to a total of 2 gb
Check out the HP website for more advice on your desktop http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=bph03886&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&product=2512097
Hi Jemma, in responce to your question, by formatting your "laptop" (Hard drive)you will be wiping the drive of all your data, applications & the operating system. You would then need to re-load the operating system & then load any applications, data would be lost unless you had backed up first. You may find that if you do have a virus, then it may be able to be removed, however depending on how much "damage" may have been done it's sometimes quicker to "backup / reload", again if the machine has not been reloaded for some time, you may find a "fresh" install can get the machine running quicker. I would reccommend that you call upon a paid support to at least advice you of the best option.
are you sure that you have a good connection? Are you able to resolve hostnames? or ping the "outside" world.
Hi Linda, hope this answers your question. You may want to contact your supplier & ask where you can download the owners manual. These are the symbols on my F buttons: F1-The moon. Enters the Sleep Mode. F2-a fan.Enters the silent mode F3-speaker with line through it. Mute the system volume F4 pc and laptop. Changes Display Mode: LCD-only, VGAonly,LCD/VGA simultaneously F5-speaker.Decreases the speaker volume. F6-bigger speaker. Increases the speaker volume. F7-sun and +. Increases the brightness level. F8-sun and -. Decreases the brightness level. F9-pc with line through. Enable/Disable the Touchpad F10 is wireless. F11-video camera. F12 is blank. Any ideas, anyone.Advent 5712 laptop.
I've noticed that Kamran N. has picked up this call, would love to know what the fix for this problem was.
RE: Computer start up speed with Windows XP
Takr a look at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310560 this takes you through Msconfig, once open take a look under the startup tab, this shows you what applications are loaded at startup. ****However, don't utilize msconfig to disable startup applications. Though it functions as a basic startup manager, msconfig shouldn't be used to alter your PC's auto-start programs, because by doing that you change the registry where there are services that are necessary for hardware and booting. Once you uncheck a service in msconfig, you disable it entirely. While disabled with msconfig, programs may not be uninstalled properly and orphaned entries often will be left behind. Switching back to normal startup mode, the orphan entries can result in boot up errors. Msconfig does not list all applications loaded in all possible startup locations, some entry points are hidden and unknown to the user. Msconfig does not allow the complete removal of disabled entries from its list.
You may find that this could be a "Blue Screen" error, basically windows is falling over & is set to automatically restart. You need to disable Automatic restart, for starters to the allow you to go through the event log to establish what is causing the error. Check that pc is not set to "Automatically Restart" under Startup and Recovery, this lives in the control panel, "System", "Advanced", "Startup and Recovery", "Settings". Make sure it's NOT ticked plus tick also "Write an event to the system log". Once this is done if the PC is "Blue Screening" you'll see an error message next time it happens. I'ld also advise running a malware scan "Malwarebytes", is a free package (google it to find website).
Hi you should find that if you check in the BIOS there you may find there is an option to "switch" the "drive" to legacy / compatiable, this allow the drive to be seen when loading XP
Denis, If you the laptop is running Vista, then teh link below should resolve the problem. Microsoft have logged this as a problem. Paste the link into your browser, should take you to the "Help & support" site, you're find the solution to this problem, you will need the Vista install CD. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949358/en-us
Hi sounds like it's running the Windows update. Is the laptop running off mains or battery?
Nik, I have to agree I've had some calls for customers using USB wireless dongles, with the problem of dropouts & connection problems. If your comfortable "getting under the hood" then I would strongly recommend fitting a PCI card.
Hi, check the basics i.e speakers are plugged in, using the correct port, not set to mute (check Control Panel | Sound & Audio Devices), After that check that you have a default Device (again Control Panel | Sound & Audio Devices, look under the Audio tab)If no device listed you'll need to install the correct driver for the audio card.
Need to know more information, some pc's will have a restore image on the disk which will allow to restore the pc to "Day 1", however be aware that this can mean that you'll lose all your data!! e-mails, internet favourites, pictures etc. I strongly recommend that you get someone to reload your pc as at least your data will backed up.
Hi, the 403is an web server status code that means that accessing the page or resource you were trying to reach is absolutely forbidden for some reason. Back to basics here! can you check that you have a valid Network address, click on "start" go up to "run", then type cmd this will open up a command prompt (black window), with this window type ipconfig this will return with an ip address, subnet mask & a gateway. if your run the same command on the other pc,you should see very similar information (the only diffrence will be the ip address, which will be 1 number up or down from the other machine). If your address starts with a 169 number than this would indicate a network issue of some type. Try running a command called tracert (network traceroute command) to www.bbc.co.uk, as long as this returns values and not asterisk, then this would imply that you are able to access the outside world. With respect to the "free" trial software, there are various products that post scanning will advise that you have various issues & by purchasing the full product these issues will be resolved! If you have anti-virus software then run a scan and see what is found. If you can update meon your results I may be able to advise further, however you may need to gain assistance to resolve these issues.
Ok, if you go into sound & audio devices within the control panel, under the Audio tab you should see the "sound playback default device". Click on the drop down you may see more than one "device" listed, if so try selecting the other device, if this is blank, then that would suggest that the audio driver hasn't been installed, or moving back to the Volume tab has the volume been set to mute?
Hi, the maximum memory that XP will suupport is 4GB, looking at the spec of this machine, it appears that the board only has 2 memory slots, each appears to support a max of 1gb "System Memory 4 memory banks (2 slots) using three 168-pin unbuffered DIMM, Single- or double-sided DIMMS with gold-plated contacts with clock specifications of 100 or 133 MHz * Supports a maximum memory size of 1 GB" With respect to the wireless connection, you would require a wireless PCI card to connect to the router, it also seems that the board does not have a built-in LAN card so if you wished to connect via a CAT5 Netwrok cable you would also need to purchase a PCI NIC.
You need to load the Network Card Driver for this pc. Access the internet via another pc, goto the dell website, into support , drivers & downloads, enter the model or servive tag number and look for the driver here.
If this pc is running XP then try running msconfig & looking under the startup tab ( click on start | go upto run |then type msconfig ). This shows startup applications, it may be a case that you've deleted some software but there are still entries for it here.
