RE: network problem

Without knowing the OS etc it is difficult to be sure, but try setting up a user account on each machine with the same user name and (strong) password. You don't both have to be logged in with this account, it just needs to exist. Get your friend to grant permisions to read files (or whatever) top this use if it is a Pro version of the OS or to make it a member of the local administators group if it is a Home version. If you are in the same room (on the same local network), map a drive to your friend's PC using this username and password. If you are using remote desktop or another remote access solution such as logmein, use this username and password to make the connection. Remind your friend to add this account to the list of users allowed remote access (not necessary if the account is a member of the administrators group). I've probably forgotten something, but I'm sure someone else will remind me. ;-)
