RE: remove

those aren't hacking tools: they are legitimate remote support programs
If you don't like them, just uninstall them, as you would any other program
So how did they get on there? Sounds like you asked someone to access the machine remotely, and thats the software they used. Both are mainstream, well regarded programs - though personally I prefer TeamViewer.

what do you mean by that?
"the computer would not start up" can mean a myriad of different things

Does it not power up at all?
Does it power up bot not boot?
Does it boot and then freeze?
Does it boot and then give an error message?
If you want help, you have to give us the information to give you that help

RE: BIOS

Mariah
asking us random questions is not going to fix your computer
Tell us what the symptoms affecting the machine are, and then maybe we can get an idea of whats wrong
BIOSes dont fail - unless someone has flashed a motherboard with the wrong one, the CMOS battery has been removed or gone flat, someone has set the BIOS incorrectly, or the motherboard is failing in some other way

Give us the symptoms and recent history of the machine, along with details of make / model / operating system and then we can try to help

RE: Memory caching

Rex, I would try a System Restore to a date before your problem arose.

Jon, look under the Performance tab in Task Manager. This distributes the physical memory between "Cached", "Available" and "Free". If you use the tab at the bottom of that page to open the Resource Monitor you can see a more detailed breakdown of memory use. "Cached" memory indicates (I think) memory in use. So Rex is suffering from 100% memory use.

FYI, I have 4 GB of RAM on my computer and currently about half of this (1840 MB) is shown as cached.

RE: Memory caching

32-bit windows can't address more than around 3.5Gb of RAM, with the result that some PCs mis-represent the amount installed. It depends on the chipset as to how much is shown, but, even if it showed the full 4GB you wouldn't be able to use it all
As to "ram caching" I don't understand what you mean. Where are you finding these reports? What exactly are they telling you?

RE: How to get a TV picture

Acer don't do a lot in the way of documentation - what little there is should all be either already preinstalled on the machine, or else available through the various Acer support links on the desktop or start menu.
But if you can't get at those, a quick Google finds a generic manual at http://support.acer.com/product/default.aspx?modelId=2455
I doubt if it will tell you much though

If you ever need to take it apart, there is a service manual at http://support.acer.com/acerpanam/Manuals/acer/2011/ServiceGuides/SG_Aspire_Z5700_Z5710_20100907.pdf

RE: Acer Extensa 5235 power problem

Mimi, on the basis of the information you have given, no other answer is possible. If you have checked the powers supply and the DC jack then you have eliminated everything except the motherboard. Just be wary that measuring voltages can be misleading; you can sometimes still measure the correct voltage beyond a joint that has become very high resistance but that is because the joint is not passing any current!

RE: How to get a TV picture

I set up one of these quite recently (or it may have been a very similar Acer model). I did pretty much as per Jon's instructions and it worked eventually. There was a very long wait at the start whilst it did some huge download before even attempting a TV picture, so you may need to be very patient.

RE: How to get a TV picture

plug in the remote control and use it to fore up the Windows Media Center software, should be pretty much self-explaining after that
If the remote confuses you, initially just start up the Media Center program with your mouse, and follow the on-screen prompts
Before you start, make sure you know your correct post code, and it helps if you know which TV transmitter your signal comes from (some locations have a choice)
