Dell System - XP Pro - Worked on the system remotely on the 8th for minutes or so. No problem - Got

Dell System - XP Pro - Worked on the system remotely on the 8th for 30 minutes or so. No problem - Got home and the screen had turned blue with STOP messages posted. The system has worked with no problem for years. Error codes changed regularly from 0X000000F4 / 0X000000D1 / 0X0000004E.
I trauled through various forums last night and restored back to the 7th. System allowed me to get into My Docs to start a copy but after Secs BLUE Screen again.I have removed all ancilliary equipment & now have run out of ideas -

if nothing else has been changed on the machine, my first assumption would be
1) bad memory
2) corrupted hard drive
3) failed hard drive or hard drive controllers

together the messages suggest problems with the page file - which could be caused any of the above three

solutions
a) download a memory check tool and check the memory for errors
b) boot with a live CD and run CHKDSK /R on the hard drive
c) identify the make/model of the hard drive, download the relevant diagnostic disk and scan for errors

I always worry about faulty memory when I get BSODs, particularly when the error code varies. So I try one memory module at a time (assuming that is possible) and a completely different memory module, if available.

Remote was Wyse Cloud via i Pad
Regularly use it like this and never had problem before.

so presumably you're running some kind of virtual server session on that PC?
Is it the virtual copy of windows thats crashing or the real copy?

Switched on again last night. Got into safe mode, went to log onto main user - Hey presto a blue screen

If its urgent, hire one of our engineers to do it for you. He/she would be able to fix it - or at least recover the data

Made a job request yesterday, only to be told 1st choice not available & I'm to wait for someone to take up the offer ....... How long do i wait before taking the machine to the shops?

In St Albans, Hertfordshire
If I had a Live CD just so I can get the data. Have been setting up a new Company, its backed up on C Drive, Desp need the data or I've blown a months hard labour / candle burning!!

its supposed to be escalated to the next engineer after one hour
Did you raise a request for a specific engineer or a general request for anyone? If the first, raise a second request based on the latter

Email yesterday advised me 1st local choice was not available. However, it was out for general release to other locals who could tender for the job. Not a bloomin sausage so far!

Whats stopping me taking out an individual chip and booting up to see if one is faulty. Assume it will boot if the dodgy one is out? I can't use a mem check if the machine doesnt boot up!

nothing stopping you at all. worth a try

interestingly, machines with defective memory WILL often boot up using memory boot disk. Windows can't handle the defective memory, but the limited operating system of the check disk can, Until the check starts running...

memtest 86+
Microsoft's memory tester


From the way you are talking though I get the impression you've not been contacted about the job? A chap called Colin should have made contact by now
