Hi,

I have a Toshiba C650D. I had restarted it as I had it on for a few days putting it into sleep mode so I could quickly resume my work. It was working slowly and the Internet wasn't coming up whenever I clicked on the Firefox symbol so I restarted it. It restarted on an update, it was going really slow and I quickly needed to resume my work because I had a deadline the same day so I turned it off and turned it on again, then it said something about updating Windows Service Pack 1 and even though it said do not turn off computer, I still did as I really needed to get back to my work. Now when I turn it on it says 'Error C0000034 applying update operation 213 of 104998 (_00000...). I turn it off and I press F8, I've tried launching in safe mode but it just shows loading windows files and all the different files and stays on that screen.

I've tried startup repair doesn't work and I tried using system restore but it says it did not complete successfully and the details say:

'System restore failed to extract the file (C:Program Files (x86)Common FilesAdobe) from the restore point.

The restore point was damaged or was deleted during the restore.

You can try System Restore again and choose a different restore point.......'

But none of them work. What do you think could be the problem, I know I was silly to have turned it off when it clearly said do not turn off the computer which is why I am now in this predicament, I'm planning on taking it to a repair shop but is there anything else you guys suggest I do like maybe typing in some type of command or something?

Thanks

I just noticed that I posted this as an email related issue, I know it's not. I typed the message on a phone and selected error issue related but it somehow changed and I didn't notice until after I posted the message.

RE:

AS the machine starts tap the F8 key until you get the extended boot menu, then try selecting the option listed as "last known good..." or something like.

If that fails, then read this article by Microsoft
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2839011
It doesn't relate to your specific update, but the methods listed should enable you to work round the problem

I tried the last known good configuration and it went to the starting windows screen and now it keeps saying Fatal error C0000034 applying update operation 213 of 104998 (_00000...)

RE:

I followed the link and the instructions for doing a system restore point from command prompt. I manage to start the laptop up and it gets to something like stage 1 of 2 preparing to configure windows, it has it at 35% and then it says failure configuring service pack, reverting changes. Do not turn off your computer and then it restarts.

I left it to do its thing and when I returned the screen went blank as if it was in sleep mode but the lights were still on, like the power button wasn't flashing or anything. I was moving my finger on the mouse pad and it wasn't coming on. I turned it off and on again, it manages to get to the log in screen but it's frozen, I can't type and the cursor doesn't move when I put my finger on the mouse pad, but the character line flashes on screen for me to type. Launched it in safe mode and the same thing, it's frozen.

An update: On the log in page I can press F6 and F7 to brighten and dim the page and the keyboard and mouse are fine when I go to the system recovery options, but if I start normally or in safe mode the keyboard and mouse pad don't work.

Hi,

Can someone please respond. My laptop is still in the same condition as discussed above as I've just put off taking it to the shop to get it fixed as I'm a bit nervous about the costs and whether I'll get overcharged, I just packed it up and put it back in my wardrobe which is where I usually store it. I went back to it today and when I pressed the power button to turn it on nothing happened, usually when I press the button, the light goes green and even when the battery is low or is dead there is a light which flashes orange to show that it neeeds to be charged. I plugged the charger in and it came on, but when I take the charger out the laptop turns off. Can someone tell me what's wrong please? I've had the laptop since September 2010, so the battery can't be that old surely?

Someone please reply. I need help.

RE:

Batteries rarely last more than 14-16 months. Yours sounds dead. However thats not the cause of your original problem

RE:

The problem you posted about on 30th May was most likely a software problem. The problem with the battery you reported on 2nd July was not.
