3 dongle was working now won't give network access

I have a 3 Internet dongle for my compaq laptop and it worked fine no problems. I gave my brother a shot of the dongle for his laptop that's maybe 3,4 years old now and ever since then I haven't been able to get online. The dongle is saying it's connected but in the bottom tool bar on the wee network connections bit it keeps saying no network access. Phoned 3 and they said it's my laptop (which is only 1 month old) I then put the laptop back to the factory settings still no joy. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Ally

We get a lot of questions on this forum about 3 dongles but often there isn't enough information to provide a solution. You have proven that the 3 dongle does not work on your computer an longer. If it now fails to work on another computer it must surely have become faulty. But if it still works on another computer but not yours then you have reached an impasse. You should be going back to "3" for technical support, but I have the impression their technical support isn't very good.

I tried it last night in my brothers laptop and it did the same thing so I'm assuming it's now faulty. Thanks for the help

use the "Safely remove hardware" option when removing usb devices. Sometimes they can become damaged and data lost if the usb device is not set to "optimise for quick removal" in Windows.
Click on the upward pointing arrow (show hidden icons)near the clock on the bottom right hand side of the screen (system tray) to see what looks like a usb device and a green green tick. Then select the device you want to remove.

I have had this network 3 dongle for a few years now and never a problem. But now I keep getting booted off! When it does, it let's me on fine for anything from a minute upwards, although sometimes not at all, and a message pops up at bottome right of screen saying usb not recognised and may bave malfunctioned, yet sometiems it works fine at times, but like i say, not for long.

You either have a faulty dongle
or a faulty USB port on the computer

Try the dongle on another computer. Does it work OK there?

Three years is a long lifetime for what is effectively a disposable piece of plastic

I have a 3 internet dongle which i have had for almost 2 years now. In the last 2 months it has been connecting and showing full strength and then wont let me access any websites due to 'connection error'. I have wiped my laptop and tried it, un installed the software and re installed it, tried a different dongle, tried a different laptop (3 in fact), and even been in to the 3 shop and gota new sim card in case it was that. Does anyone one else have this problem and know the solution as it is quite frankly driving me mad! And my 24 months contract doesnt end until November :(
