Business Broadband recommendation

I am about to move office and will be needing a business broadband service. I need a minimum of 8mb. I was wondering if anyone has had a good/bad experience that might help me make my decision.

Thanks

RE: Business Broadband recommendation

If you want 8mb+ then first you have to find just who is offering unbundled ADSL2 services in your area. Once you know that, then you can compare the various offerings. Start by checking the available service providers at your location by using this online checker http://www.samknows.com/broadband/checker2.php?p=summary
You wont't get 8mb+ from anyone offering an unbundled service, or reselling BT's ADSL+ service.
Once you know whats available locally, come back and ask for comparisons of the services available to you. Hopefully one of us will have experience of some (or all) of them.

RE: Business Broadband recommendation

Note - I should have explained that ADSL+ (which is the "normal" ADSL service now provied by BT) maximums at 8mb/s - and thats a theoretical max which no-one ever hits. For 8+mb/s you need the rare ADSL2 or cable -hence the need to check local service providers

RE: Business Broadband recommendation

Hi

There are numerous options and many are dependent on factors beyond your control.

The important thing here is to keep things as simple, efficient and professional as possible and on that basis I have to recommend:

http://www.techant.co.uk/a/namesco

Take a look at their Platinum package (or Platinum+ or SDSL packages if you feel you need more).

My experience has always been very good with them.

Hope this helps.

Many thanks
Ant

RE: Business Broadband recommendation

but that company is just offering up to 8mb/s or 2mb/s depending on package: i.e. just resel;ling BT's standard ADSL / ADSLmax offerings. The customer wants MORE than 8mb/s which means he needs to use an ISP which locally provides a "local loop unbundled" service - ie ADSL2
As for SDSL - this may offer synchronous rates, but usually at a much lower speed - for instance locally to me only 1mb/s

RE: Business Broadband recommendation

My apologies for misreading the original post. Thought it said a 'maximum' of 8MB.

Guess I'm too used to reading the usual broadband sales literature!

Cannot recommend anywhere in particular, but as mentioned it will depend on your location and what companies are offering in that area.

Two places for you to look at:

https://www.bethere.co.uk/broadbandoffice.do

Hope this helps.

RE: Business Broadband recommendation

Try Be Un Limited (owned by O2) or O2 themselves. They currently have a special offer on: £16 - £20 per month for up to 20MB download speed.

Just remember that the advertised download speeds of any supplier will be under ideal conditions and almost no-one gets those!

RE: Business Broadband recommendation

I finally found out my BT number so I could run the check you suggested. These are the options it gave me

BT Wholesale ADSL
BT Wholesale ADSL Max
BT Wholesale SDSL
O2 / Be LLU
Bulldog LLU
TalkTalk (CPW) LLU
Sky Broadband / Easynet LLU
Urban Wimax
Virgin Media (Cable)

I was really hoping to use Be There as they have a 24mb service. If it is not in the list does that mean they do not service my office?

Are any of the above good?

Thanks

RE: Business Broadband recommendation

if a company is not on the list, then the only way they can service your office is by reselling BT's ADSL or ADSLmax services - which top out at 2 / 8mb/s respectively. If you want faster you need to speak to either Virgin cable or one of the listed unbundlers. You asked about Be - they ARE in the list: thats the 02 lisitng (Be were taken over by them)
From memory Be, Easynet and Bulldog have all offered high-speed business packages in the past, but all have since been subsumed into larger businesses more oriented toward domestic users. Whether they offer high-speed services in your area is a different question and depends on what gear they have fitted in the local phone exchange. All you can do is call each and ask them - and make sure the salesman understands you need a 24mb/s (or thereabouts) service. Theres a lot of misdirection / mis-selling goes on in the ADSL market with customers ordering what they think is one product and ending up on a contract with another...

RE: Business Broadband recommendation

PS -just to clarify, I am NOT suggesting that any of the companys listed above are involved in dodgy sales.
