3 connect mobile broadband

Hi whenever I seem to connect my 3 dongle into my laptop it keeps coming up as 'A device has malfunctioned please disconnect' It used to work fine and only recently it has started acting up. I have since then restored the laptop and now the 3 connect software has gone and it won't upload from the dongle itself. Is anyone able to help

RE: 3 connect mobile broadband

1) why did you "restore" the computer? what went wrong to make you do this?
2) have you tried the dongle on another USB port? or another PC?
3) what version of windows are you running? How did you "restroe" it? After restoring have you installed any service packs or other updates?

RE: 3 connect mobile broadband

I always hear alarm bells when people say they "restored" their computer. Could it be that you loaded a version of Windows XP prior to Service Pack 2 and have not updated it back to SP2 (indeed SP3 is the current service pack)?

" only one usb port on the laptop "
This is beginning to sound worse. How old is this machine and what model is it? "Only one" USB port suggests a very early USB1 chipset - and they could be as temperamental as anything, may need special patch drivers to get going
Question: Does anything else work in that USB port?

" Also I havent a clue what service pack I got"

Right click My Computer and select Properties. The window that opens will tell you the service pack.

RE: 3 connect mobile broadband

Hi Jamie,

If you got service pack 2 on your system. My suggestion is upgrade the Xp to services pack 3 first. And then try to use 3 dongle.

Please let us know the outcome.

RE: 3 connect mobile broadband

we cannot answer that
you should speak to your network provider - if only to ensure you don't get billed for its ongoing use by whoever now has it

RE: 3 connect mobile broadband

Jamie, these "3" dongles seem to be notorious for not working properly and numerous posts to this forum will testify to that. When you say "it used to work" and then say that all your other USB devices work in that single socket then straight away I suspect another mafunctioning dongle. Demand a replacement from "3".
