my 3 connect dongle does not work any more

my dongle is not working on my laptop any more
i tried to re plug it into my laptop but it goes red so i tried to connect it by clickin on my wireless connection button it said bt home hub
and three connect i clicked on three connect
and clicked connect it says in the top connections available and when i clicked connect it said connected but when i whent onto my three
network thing it said scanning for service and then said no service i have tried re-plugging it in but it wont work i know it i has nothing to do with my usb port help me

Are you in an area where it has worked before? or could you just be out of signal range?

How new is the dongle, if it is still under warranty, take it back to the supplier. If not, can you try it in another PC, these dongles seem to fail quite often.

obvious question - have you spoken to "3"?
its their dongle and their network and their support lines really should be your first point of contact for help

If it says there's no service then its pretty obvious - you have no 3 phone signal…..

Move house will fix it.

Actually Richard may be wrong. Your computer thinks your 3 dongle is just another dial-up modem. And as far as the computer is concerned, all dial-up modems are equal. I saw an instance where the 3 software had become associated with the built-in telephone modem and was trying (and of course failing) to use that to establish a connection.

One thing to try is to unplug the dongle, uninstall the software using (Add)/Remove Programs in Control Panel AND ALSO remove the network connection for the dongle under Network Connections in Control Panel. Then plug the dongle in and start again. But ideally do this standing next to a 3 phone mast so you are certain there is a signal to be had.

If that fails then the chances are the dongle is faulty. If you want to prove the point, try it on another computer.

hi i have the same problem but i think it might be that i have gone over the maxium download usage

i had the same problem, i uninstalled my old connection drivers, especially the awful talk talk and re installed 3, and we were away. worth a try dee

I've done ALL the above and more My laptop (Vista) WILL NOT connect using any dongle! It's fine with regular WiFi. we have had three now that have all worked perfectly on other PC/notebooks.
All installed fine just keeps trying to connect but never does!
given up!

Am I alone in believing that that not only are these 3 dongles prone to reliability problems but are also completely unnecessary?
Personally, if I want my laptop to access the internet on the move I just plug in my mobile phone.

Laptop, phone, USB lead; job done. Why waste money on something else?

Marion, you a certainly not alone. Either:

Your reception is not good enough, try using the dongle in a range of locations - particularly city centres for good reception.

Your dongle has failed - try it on another computer to see if you still experience the same problem.

You have to go to network connections in control panel. The top icon will be 1.5G and right click to set as default. Then when red cross disappears, right click again and click connect. If this does'nt work, send me an e-mail. Clive

Yes, one problem I have seen with these dongles is that Windows sees the dongle as a sort of dial-up modem and it thinks all dial-up modems are the same. So if the computer is old enough to have a built-in telephone dial-up modem it may be trying to use that to make your wireless connection! That's incredibly stupid, but computers lack common sense. I have actually seen and corrected this problem for a client.

I have the same problem, when i connect Dongle, it has no signal or network, I tried on different laptop in the same location and it works, but i want to used in that laptop which is not working.

I think the best thing to do is contact the three, if anyone have better idea please put it forward

Some people live in a location where the signal is too weak for the dongle to connect, some people have to initiate the installation software manually, some people have to continually re-install the dongle to get it to work, some computers confuse the dongle with a built-in dial-up modem, some dongles are faulty.

It is very difficult to tell what the problem is without quite a lot of information. Does the dongle work at another location? Does the dongle work on another computer? What error messages do you get? Your best bet would be to try phoning "3" technical support. You can try posting here if you draw a blank there but be prepared to provide a lot of information and run some tests if you want a solution.
