not seeing my network

A couple of days ago, my desktop, using Windows 7 64 bit connection to the network started flapping. I was using a Belkin wireless USB adapter, so I thought that it might be dying, so I bought another one. did the install, but wasn't able to detect my wireless network. I know my wireless works fine because my wifes laptop works, and I spent over an hour with Belkin tech support, and determined that the USB adapter works because it works on my wifes laptop. Now, I was wondering, does anyone might know a reason why it is doing this? It can't be a dead spot because my wife's laptop is literally less than a foot away from the PC and it works fine.

This type of problem needs to be addressed by a process of elimination. Possibly some security software with an over-zealous firewall? Or perhaps you need the USB adaptor to be on the end of a USB extension cable to avoid a local dead spot?

Go to the command prompt by clicking on the Windows Start and type cmd into the search. Now you see that command prompt. To start it make a click or use the keyboard to selct it and hit Enter.And then type ping 127.0.0.1 and hit Enter in the command prompt.And copy paste the result here.

This is a classic case of "RTFM". You need to completely uninstall your Belkin software, uninstall the hardware in Device Manager then shut down the PC. Now remover the Belkin WiFi Adapter and start the PC. Now install the software & drivers BEFORE fitting the hardware. Following software installation shut down again & install the adapter. Reboot and it will work.

I would suggest switching off any firewall that you have and do a manual search for any network.
The router might have a higher security setting than the dongle as well so try switching off the security on the router. Just because it works on your other laptop does not mean that that has the same security settings
