RE: Advent 5711
Have you tried using a cable to connect to the internet and then getting Windows to find and install the driver? Vista is generally pretty good at coming up with drivers that work.

RE: Advent 5711
I tried that and it didnt work, i've tried opening the covers on the bottom to find the wireless card and find some kind of name or serial number but it aint under any of the covers, i took the keyboard off and it aint there either, i would have the take the full motherboard out to get to the wireless card but i really dont want to do that.

RE: Advent 5711
this is claimed to be the correct file http://www.badongo.com/cfile/9754059
However its on an anonymous filesharing site and should be treated as suspect until you've screened it with AV software According to UKTSupport the card is a Lite-Om WN6302L

RE: Advent 5711
There is no such thing as Advent; it is just a brand name used by the DSG Group (PC World, Currys, Dixons etc.) to rebrand computers they buy from other manufacturers.

RE: Advent 5711
Thanks for the feedback Andrew, good to know it worked
This machine is actually an ECS Uniwill U51IL1 see http://www.uktsupport.co.uk/advent/laptop/5711.htm
we've been down this road with clones of this model before: minimal support on the Tecb Guys site, not listed at all on the main ECS site or the Uniwill site - and no reference of the card on Lite-On's site Gateway also sold this model in the past, but you need their matching model number to be able to find the correct driver downloads (which I don't have) At present that file on Badongo seems to be the ONLY findable driver for the wireless card for this machine

RE: Advent 5711
RTL8101 is a Realtek gigabit ethernet chipset, not a wifi chipset
I suggest you go back and rethink what it is you're trying to download and get the correct drivers
if you need more help please post again in a new thread giving full details of make / model of machine and operating system as your question is clearly not related to the existing thread
