my 3 dongle wont work on my windows 7 laptop

i have had to buy windows 7 , and my 3 dongle wont run , it installs but wont run and connect . i have the

ZTE model MF112

ive been told it may not be compatible and ill have to pay for an upgrade is the anything i can do ????
