with Acers you usually have to create your own recovery disks by running a utility on the PC.
If you create and run that, at first boot you should then get a language option
Unless Acer have locked that model down.... unlikely though

It's very unusual for a computer to be supplied with recovery DVDs these days. You are expected to create your own. Is your real problem that you have a computer that runs in Portuguese rather than English?

Re: Alan B. You are correct, it did not come with any RECOVERY DVD, because Acer GB/Portugal are unable to help for what ever reason & I wish to have my OS in English in Portugal. The English Recovery Disk would help me circumvent the language restriction without having to do a new install & down load a whole stack of drivers. Thanks all the same.

Re: Jon.S Perhaps I have not been clear enough in my requirements: I am well aware one has to create one's own RECOVERY DISK. I am hoping a fellow English speaking client has bought the very same Acer & obviously has created his own RD: & he/she can mail me a COPY of there RD: I hope I have made the situation clear. Given these facts it would obviously save me a lot of leg work to insert the English RD: & ditch the Portuguese OS: Thanks for your comment.

Your Acer will come with a Microsoft Licence to run the Portuguese version of Microsoft Windows. It's quite likely that this does not cover an English-language version in which case what you are proposing, Bruce, is a form of software piracy!

Alan you may very well be "semi/half" right & not wishing to split hairs with you, it stands to reason I also may be semi right :) 50/50% I am prepared for MS: to come knocking on my door should they deem it necessary, I merely want to change my OS: language to my native tongue & do not believe they would wish to penalize me. Thank you for your counsel.

I'm sure if you did this and Microsoft found out they would wish to penalize you. They would say that a Portuguese copy of Windows isn't as valuable as an English copy. What you might find if you "restored" your laptop with and English DVD is that the new copy of Windows would then be flagged as "not genuine" and would be disabled after a while if you did not fork out some money to Microsoft. I have no idea if that would happen or not but it is the normal response to a mismatch between the Windows version and the licence key.

& yet again, thank you for your counsel. English be the most widely spoken language, I used the word spoken & not written, but I do not wish to get into the merits of one language Vs: the other.

Not quite the same thing but I once tried to install a Chinese copy of Windows with a valid licence key on a computer here (for a Chinese client). But Microsoft wouldn't let me activate it because the actual computer was not in China.
